The *NEW* Digital SAT® -- Everything you NEED to know!

When is the change happening?

For United States students, the PSAT® will go digital before the SAT® does.

The PSAT® goes digital in October 2023, whereas the SAT® goes digital in March 2024.

What are the noteworthy differences between the two exams?

The digital SAT® is significantly shorter than is the paper SAT® - woohoo!

There are a few differences regarding content and style…

*Note: For sections to be adaptive, it means that performance on the first section (module) determines the level of difficulty of the second section (module) for both English & math.

SHOULD MY CHILD TAKE THE PAPER OR THE DIGITAL TEST?

What you want to ensure is that your child does not end up taking BOTH exams, as there really is no reason to prep for two different versions of the SAT®.

If your child has already taken Algebra 2/Trig, he or she can start prepping for the paper SAT® and finish testing by December (the last paper SAT® administration). The latest I would recommend beginning to prep for the paper test is August 2023, as you want to ensure your child has multiple chances to test before it goes digital.

If your child is not in Algebra 2/Trig this year, it may be best to wait for the digital SAT®. Starting to prep late fall or early winter is a great idea to get your child ready for the spring digital SAT® exams.

Final thoughts & opinions

I am a BIG fan of the digital SAT®. I think this exam will be relatively coachable from what I have seen thus far, and I do like the new types of questions offered. I also am a big fan of the addition of the Desmos graphing calculator, as I do think there are many tricks students can learn on Desmos to get more questions right on the math section.
